Back to school!
Every year as the summer ends I wonder where those warm months went, as they never seem to last long enough. This year is no exception, but I always enjoy getting ready for the fall by planning special back-to-school offerings for the studio. Everything from private lessons to group instruction is an option, including group classes, tailored clinics and audition prep workshops for students taking PMEA auditions this winter. Here are some specific examples of what's available as we begin the new school year! * Private lessons for all ages (from beginner to adult hobbyist) * Group beginner lessons: For beginning students of the same age group, these sessions can accommodate up to four students and are the perfect setting for students who may feel shy or timid about beginning an instrument, or who learn well surrounded by students participating in similar activities. Group lessons last 4-8 weeks depending on the needs of the students, who transition to private lessons up completing the group sessions. * Tailored school clinics: Instruction tailored to the age group and needs of school band students, presented during the school day or after school band rehearsal. Clinics may cover a broad range of fundamentals, specific music, or specific requests from the school band director. * PMEA Audition Clinics: Clinics with group instruction and masterclass elements on the current PMEA district audition music. Can be one session or multiple sessions.
Of course, offerings are not limited to what is listed here. Be in touch using the contact page to plan or schedule an offering!
I've made a personal commitment in the new year to blog regularly on topics related to teaching, freelancing, and any other relevant topic for someone navigating the flute or a career in music. So far in the new year I've made two new posts, and look forward to exploring some issues that I feel very strongly about (including health/exercise for musicians) in the coming weeks. I will occasionally share other useful resources and quotes on my blog, as well as on my studio's Facebook page. Please feel free to visit using the link in the title and leave a little feedback!
My first contribution to the Powell Flutes blog "Teach Flute" has just been published! This wonderful resource compiles writings by Powell artists on a variety of topics related to teaching and performance. I feel very lucky to contribute to this resource! Check it out at: Teach Flute
Now offering: skype lessons!
Location is no longer a limiting factor when it comes to studying with the teacher of your choice. Thanks to resources like YouTube, podcasts and video chat, flutists around the globe are now available to us from the comfort of our own home. I'm pleased to announce that Skype lessons are now available as part of my studio teaching. Check out the Skype Lesson page under the Flute Studio tab and use the Contact Form to be in touch about setting up a lesson or with any questions you might have regarding study via the internet!
21st Century ventures
Coming out of a busy Easter season, I'm enjoying taking on a few new technological ventures. I'm currently writing my first blog for a wonderful local website: thingstodolancasterpa.com (be sure to check out this great site!)!
Apostles Academy of Arts & Sciences
I'm happy to announce that I am now on staff as flute faculty at the Apostles Academy of Arts & Sciences in Lancaster. I'm already enjoying working with the other musicians on faculty, and look forward to growing my studio at this location!
Head to the "Look, listen and watch" link for just-in audio from the UW School of Music Alumni recital in September. The first clip that's up is one of my all time favorite pieces of flute music.
I've happily made quite a few changes to the "look" you're viewing! I am extremely grateful, and need to give credit, to Tera Nelson Photography for the new images you find here (her website is available in the "Links" section)! Thank you hardly says enough!
Now offering: Group beginner lessons
With the school year just beginning, and lots of students just starting to explore their interest in music, I am now offering group lessons for beginners. Lessons will be offered for 3-4 students at once (perfect opportunity for carpooling for fluting friends with busy parents!) to allow each student a chance to still receive important individual attention to fundamentals as they make their first sounds. This fun and comfortable environment is also ideal for students who may be a bit shy or unsure about pursuing an instrument. Group lessons will last for 4 to 8 weeks depending on the needs of the students, who will transition to individual lessons at the completion of the group course.
