Studio Policies
Davis Flute Studio
These policies are in place to enable equal understanding on the part of both student/parent and teacher. To ensure fairness and consistency within the studio, there will be no exceptions to these policies.
I believe that music as studied through the flute can bring great intellectual and emotional growth if the teacher, students and parents are equally committed. Because of this, I have adopted the following studio policy. I ask that parents and students sit down together to read this policy. Please sign the bottom and return the signatures and contact information at your second lesson.

Tuition
Tuition is due by the first lesson of the month. It is advisable to send your payment by the last lesson of the preceding month. If your payment is received after the first lesson of the month, please enclose a late fee of $5.00. In the case of a missed lesson or holiday at the end of the month, your payment is still due on time. You may mail your payment if it is more convenient. Full tuition is expected each month whether or not the student attends all lessons.
Your tuition includes:
Monthly Statements and Payment
You will receive a monthly statement via email listing the tuition amount due for the upcoming month. Please do not send a payment for a different amount that what is listed in the statement unless prior arrangements have been made.
Lesson Regularity, Absences, and Make-Up Lessons
Lessons are offered in increments of 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on the students age and ability. Lessons are offered only on a weekly basis. Bi-weekly lessons are discouraged as the consistency of weekly lessons is important for musical development.
I require a 48-hour advance notice for all absences in order to schedule a make up lesson. There are no exceptions. If this policy is followed, the student will always receive a make-up lesson. If there is an emergency, illness or inclement weather, the student is entitled to a make-up lesson even without 24-hour notice. In the event that I must miss a teaching day, the student will not be billed for that lesson. I will always give ample notice regarding any absence I may have. Cancellations or changes should be made by phone or email only. Text message changes or cancellations are not acceptable.
Trading Lesson Times
If a student has a conflict with their lesson time but is able to take another time in the same week, it is advisable to call another student to arrange a lesson switch using the contact sheet and lesson schedule I provide. You are responsible for the lesson switch and showing up at the new lesson time. Please notify me after the switch has been made.
Practice
Parents should take this opportunity to help their children set up an uninterrupted practice schedule at home. The establishment of this routine will help your child reach their goals and enjoy the rewards of dedication to their flute playing. You and your child both need to be committed to this exciting musical endeavor! I will help students in their lessons to develop good practice habits so they may maximize their results.
Studio Recitals
There will be studio recitals each year, and students will be expected to perform on these and prepare to the best of their ability. They are an excellent opportunity to share what you have learned and are essential for the musical growth of each student. If a pianist is required, the student/parent is responsible for contacting the pianist (I will provide contact information). The pianist will provide their rehearsal and concert fee structure beforehand.
Contact
I check my email and phone frequently, and am usually easy to reach. If you are a Hartland student, please call my cell phone or email to reach me, as I do not check my voicemail at Hartland Music often.
Termination of Lessons
In the event that a student needs to withdraw from lessons for any reason, four weeks of advance notice (and the tuition for those four weeks) is expected. No refunds are given for tuition.
Most Importantly
I look forward to sharing my love of the flute and teaching with my students. Lessons should be a rewarding experience for everyone involved, and I look forward to making music together!
