Creative Resilience: The ability to make constructive change in oneself and one’s creative work in the face of both positive and adverse conditions through self-realization, awareness, and the use of customized tools.

Build the toolbox you need

Practice & Routine

Creativity is demanding. It takes resilience to keep coming back to the drawing board and improving your craft. Practice is more than just playing our instruments. Routines that incorporate physical practices, and mental practices are all a necessary part of becoming artistically whole.

Movement

Physical health is crucial for musicians. Knowing how to listen to your body is the first step. My training in yoga, anatomy, and myofascial release allows me to help others understand their bodies and build a repertoire of exercises to stay injury-free and open to expression.

Mindfulness

Mental clarity matters for peak performance. Being able to support yourself through the intensity of preparation, performing, and the demands of being a musician requires strength of mind. As a practitioner and teacher of mindfulness, I have first-hand experience helping musicians care for the mental aspect of their craft.

We all have a toolbox of skills and exercises that we implement in our practice and performance. Usually, these tools are related to our instrument-specific skills or approach to practice, but they’re only part of the story. As musicians, we need to become comfortable in a myriad of environments and that requires understanding our physical and mental habits and reactions, not just how our instruments work.

Creative Resilience is a combination of physical and mental intelligence and routine implementation. It’s developing a broader toolbox so that we can find more consistency and success by addressing more than just how to practice the fast passages in our repertoire. Being a musician isn’t just about playing the right notes.

I’m excited to share the body and brain tools I’ve developed across years of building my career here on the B-List to help others figure out how to fill their toolboxes to build Creative Resilience and find ease in their musical lives.
